Managing Noise in Hearing Aids

The specific aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a new noise reduction algorithm for individuals with hearing loss when listening to speech in the presence of background noise.   The algorithm, developed by Professor Kevin Short of the Department of Mathematics  at the University of New Hampshire (Nelson & Short, 1998; Short & Garcia, 2006; Short, Garciz & Daniels, 2007) uses signal separation technology that can isolate an individual speaker and reduce background noise in an audio signal to improve the intelligibility of conversations in noisy environments.
