Upcoming Presentations

The AR Lab is pleased to announce that our own Torri Ann Woodruff-Gautherin will be presenting two posters at the upcoming Early Hearing Detection and Identification (EDHI) Conference. The first titled “Intervention Mapping as a Public Health Approach to Address Lost to Intervention” will discuss an intervention mapping program developed to support those families who decline to enroll in early intervention services. Based on an e-Delphi model on LTI, the program includes input from key stakeholders (professionals, academics, advocates, and families of children who are D/deaf and hard of hearing). The second poster, “Personal Narratives in Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) Audiology Supplement Seminar at the University of Connecticut” is a reflection on the use of the patient journey to enhance student understanding of the complexities of living with a disability.  Congratulations Torri Ann!  March will be a busy month.

World Hearing Day

hearing for life

World Hearing Day reminds us that:

  • At all life stages, communication and good hearing health connect us to each other, our communities, and the world.
  • For those who have hearing loss, appropriate and timely interventions can facilitate access to education, employment and communication.
  • Globally, there is lack of access to interventions to address hearing loss, such as hearing aids.

UCONN Keeps Giving

I’m excited to let you know that the we have raised over $2000 in honor of Mark Ross during UConn Gives so far! I was so touched to see that our UCONN SLHS alum think as fondly of Mark as I do.

Giving Day is not over yet!  There are 9 hours left in UConn’s second-ever giving day.  You can  still make a donation on our project page:  http://c-fund.us/jek.

Thank you in advance for your support.   Kathy

UCONNGives

SLHS will be participating for the first time in the UCONN Gives campaign taking place beginning March 27-28, 2019. For 36 hours, all of UConn Nation will be coming together to support the university we love.

During those 36 hours, we will be raising money for the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences in honor of Dr. Mark Ross. Everyone has a mentor that they hold in high regard.  For me, Dr. Mark Ross, is the epitome of what a leader in the field of audiology should be.  He influenced my practice and research with everything from the WIPI to thoughts on earmolds, hearing aid fittings and the value of patient centered support groups.  There is not an area of rehabilitative audiology in which Mark has not been involved.

The department would like to honor Dr. Ross and all his accomplishments by setting up a fund that can be used in support of students in the Au.D. program.  Mark has touched so many of us in the field, we would like to acknowledge his valuable contribution in this way.

Get ready, #UConnNation. #UConnGives is BACK for year two! Put your paws in by supporting (school/college/unit) on March 27-28, 2019. (link) #AllPawsIn

Best, Kathy
